Manufacturing Contact Lenses (Medical & Cosmetic)

Manufacturing Contact Lenses (Medical & Cosmetic)

  1. Raw Materials:

Lenses are made from hydrogel or silicone hydrogel polymers, allowing oxygen permeability and offering flexibility.

  2. Forming Methods:
    • Spin Casting: Liquid plastic is poured into molds and spun at high speed, forming the lens curvature as required.
    • Lathe Cutting: Solid polymer discs are precisely cut using CNC machines according to the optical prescription.
  3. Cosmetic Additions (for Colored Lenses):
    • Patterns and colors are printed to mimic the iris.
    • The color layer is coated with a protective layer to prevent direct contact with the eye.
  4. Sterilization & Packaging:
    • Lenses are sterilized using heat or special solutions.
    • Each lens is packaged in a container with saline solution for preservation.

Manufacturing Prescription Glass Lenses

  1. Measurement:

Accurate measurement of farsightedness, nearsightedness, and astigmatism.

  2. Material Selection:

    Organic plastic, polycarbonate, or glass.

  3. Shaping & Grinding:

Lenses are shaped and ground precisely according to the optical prescription.

  4. Polishing & Coating:
    • Polishing the surface to remove roughness.
    • Applying coatings: scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, and UV protection.
  5. Cutting & Assembly:

Lenses are cut to fit the eyeglass frame precisely.
